  • Universal Credit (UC)
  • Housing Benefit (a new benefit making people eligible for ECO4)

FREE home energy-saving grants explained

What are FREE solar, air source heat pump and insulation grants?

FREE* solar panels, air source heat pump and insulation grants, otherwise known as the government ECO4 scheme come under the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) legislation, or the Affordable Warmth Scheme. If you are on any benefits you can get FREE solar panels, air source heat pump and insulation off-gas homes.

How do solar, air source heat pump and insulation grants work?

If you are a homeowner or private tenant have electrical, oil or LPG bottled gas heating and you obtain benefits as listed in the eligibility criteria, then you could apply for a FREE storage heater grant. The scheme is aimed at those wanting a more energy efficient home and to reduce heating bills.

To be eligible for a FREE survey:

  • you must be the homeowner or private tenant (with the landlords permission)
  • you must be on a benefit

Information we may ask for:

  • your name (and landlords if required) and date of birth
  • property address and type of home (flat, house, detached…)
  • evidence of any benefits

We will then carry out a FREE survey based on your pre-qualifying information. If your survey and application pass, we will then arrange installation with you. A decision is usually awarded on the spot. We will then run through how its installed and terms and conditions.

Installations are carried out by fully insured registered installers or NICEIC installers. All insulation installs are carried out by professionals and are also fully insured.

How much are the grants worth?

It’s hard to give a specific value as each house is different, but the combined worth of the solar panels, air source heat pump and internal wall insulation combined are worth £30,000+. All provided FREE to you as it is paid for by the energy companies via their grant scheme

Where are home energy-saving grants available and when to?

FREE insulation and storage heaters grants are available throughout the UK under the standard criteria. We currently cover the whole of England.

Energy Company Obligation 2022-2026 (ECO4) was updated in 2022. The ECO4 Order commenced on 1 April 2022 and runs until 31 March 2026. The availability will be reduced year-on year as it approaches its energy efficiency targets. To make the best of this opportunity apply sooner than later as the eligibility criteria may be reduced.

How long does it take?

Once we have your application and you are accepted (subject to survey), we will then need to carry out a FREE survey to check your home meets a set criteria. We aim to complete this within a week of your application.

Solar panel installation and air source heat pump installation by typically takes a day or two day on a 1-2 bed house.

Insulation products like loft and internal wall are typically completed within a week.
